In 2005 Radio 1 and Canvas started their search for the greatest Belgian in history.

Then viewers nominated ten people from that list. These ten nominees each got a wise and motivated promoter. Promoters could make a plea for their greatest Belgian in a documentary.
On the 1st of December 2005 Father Damian was elected as greatest Belgian.
